Youth violence is a problem in our country. We've all probably seen news stories on kids who bring violence into schools -- with words, their fists and even weapons. The federal government has witnessed this situation through tragedies such as Columbine, Colorado, and has taken a strong stand against violence in schools. In an effort to make a committment to providing safe and healthy environments for kids, a program called Safe Schools Healthy Students was created.
parents and community members:
Safe Schools provides grant money to communities which share the vision of creating positive environments for youth. This grant is all about keeping our schools safe and our kids healthy. It will involve expanding on and creating a variety of prevention programs for the youth in Carlton County -- from keeping babies healthy to decreasing teen violence.
